Melissa is a real estate, design and construction expert with 20 years experience. Her vast portfolio offers a confident perspective, leading her direct teams, trades and consultants with a friendly efficiency and history of success. Seen as an industry leader she’s built a respected reputation that has her called upon as a guest speaker, and media representative for related brands.

With now nearly a decade as the behind the scenes creator for more than 140 episodes of award winning HGTV design, investment and renovation content. Melissa is at the forefront of the home consumer market, as the maker of trends, followed by what was in 2016 the third most viewed network(HGTV) behind only Fox News and TSN.

Design is having a moment, the success attributed on Bloomberg as something aspirational that "doesn't make us sad". The fact is there has never been a more powerful time for brands and related services to capitalize on a cultural phenomenon. Moreover one that is increasingly capturing the coveted consumer market of 25-54 year old women. Understanding how to simplify the integration of design in the construction and renovation decision making, while making it a value add proposition has allowed Melissa to stay ahead of a rapidly evolving industry.

The long story

Melissa's professional career in design, renovation and real estate began more than 18 years ago.  As a graduate of Sheridan College's Interior Design program she is trained and functions as a full-service design, build and real estate consulting firm from initial planning and feasibility studies through to renovations, additions, full production and coordination of building permits, and finally in the finishing, furnishing and decorating as needed.

While working alongside several of Toronto’s more notable residential designers and decorators including the late John Schofield Manuel, she was afforded the privilege at a young age to work with such notable clients as Conrad Black, seeing her work featured within the first year of graduation in Canadian House and Home Magazine and the prestigious Junior League Designer Showcase.

Before launching her own firm now more than 9 years ago, Melissa held the position of Associate Designer for 8 years with a boutique, distinctly architectural design firm, working primarily on commercial and hospitality projects including The Australian Consulate, GSNH LLP, AIG Insurance Montreal, Toybox Manta Digital Sound, Distrikt Night Club and LUSH Handmade Cosmetic Stores across Canada and the US.  Her commercial work has been featured in Canadian Interiors Magazine, Azure Magazine and published in 100 of The World’s Best Bars, Club Design, and A pocketful of Bars.

Since launching her own firm, Melissa’s diverse professional experience has proven a winning combination.  Her understanding of design from both a technical and aesthetic perspective allows a value-added 360 approach to each project.

In 2008/09 her work was documented in a 13 episode series Marriage Under Construction airing on HGTV Canada, US and in 40+ Countries worldwide.  In 2010 she became series designer on the award winning series Income Property on HGTV Canada and US working alongside host, Scott McGillivray to create the option layouts, permit drawings, designs through to staging. Now in it’s 10th season, Melissa’s work can be seen on seasons 4 through 10.

She can be seen as an expert in her field appearing on The Marilyn Denis Show, City Line, CHCH News, CP24, Rogers Television, Global Television.  Her residential work has been featured in Style at Home Magazine, House and Home and she was noted as one of Toronto Life’s Top Interior Design Firms.

Melissa has been appearing on the Celebrity Main Stage at the National Home Show, GTA Home Show, Fall Home Show and Ottawa Home Show since 2010.  In 2014 she became the expert Interior Designer for Marketplace Events, a creative campaign appearing on billboards, print and digital ads as well as all materials, tickets and signage associated with their shows.  Melissa had the honor of representing the campaign in television interviews leading up to and during the shows in both Ottawa and Toronto

In 2013 Melissa launched Part-Time Utopian, a product design firm along with partner, Michael. Their mandate is to draw from the novel thinking about sustainability and health as well as contemporary aesthetic sensibilities.

Recognizing a void in the market, in 2012 Melissa along with partner Halina Catherine teamed with a trusted distributor to create Grain Floors, a carefully curated collection of wood floors that are hand-selected by designers Melissa and Halina. Each product line was chosen because it represents the best option available at the best price for that category and caliber of material.

In 2016, leading North American company Carpet One Floor & Home partnered with Melissa to enhance their Canadian stores with tools to elevate the customer shopping experience and provide in store design inspirations. Melissa Davis will be sharing her home design expertise by creating various collections of her favourite Carpet One Floor & Home floors products based on style trends.

Davis' advice will help guide Carpet One Floor & Home customers by addressing some of the most common concerns, as well as working with the merchandising and marketing teams to help reposition the branding and retail experiences.

A past ambassador for both Habitat for Humanity Toronto and The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Melissa worked with Habitat to design a ‘recycled dwelling’ created using materials found only in their ReStores. As ambassador, she represented them in television and print interviews helping to spread their message to a broader audience.  As the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation took their annual Yard Sale For The Cure initiative nationally, they teamed with Melissa as an official ambassador and emcee for media events, as well as representing them in television and print interviews.
